followed by a celebration of mining community life
By Ann Donlan
On Saturday 3rd December, 2016, at 10.00 am we will be holding our annual commemoration ‘For all who lost their lives working in the coal mines of Nottinghamshire’. This year we will be holding this in Newstead at the Country Park, Tilford Road, Newstead, Notts, NG15 OBS. Wreaths will be laid and those who wish to remember a loved one will be invited to tie a black ribbon on the colliery wheel, if they wish to do so.
At 11.00 am this will be followed by a Celebration of Mining Community Life, with a talk on the history of Newstead village and the pit, a photographic display, poems, songs and music. This will be held at Newstead Welfare Community Centre. Light refreshments will be available.
Eric Eaton, Chair of the Association says, “Come and join us at this important community event. Let’s remember those that we have lost and celebrate the strength and community spirit that still survives.”
